Recent election has caused quite a stir spreading waves of different emotions throughout this nation and the world. The truth is nobody knows what's going to happen in the coming years and unfortunately we can't control everything that happens in life. However, We are still responsible for ourselves and we have a choice for our state of being. We are responsible for our own thoughts, emotions and behavior. We all have a responsibility of what we put out into this world. Instead of adding more fuel to the chaos, spreading optimism and love is what we can choose to do.
Ok, that may be easier said than done especially in life when things don't seem to go our way but do what you have to do to stay calm. Go meditate, do yoga, get acupuncture, go on a vacation, go workout, just keep practicing what you have to do to stay cool. The most important practice you can incorporate into your daily ritual is to wake up each morning and think of 3 things you are grateful for. Being in the state of gratitude and anger nor anxiety cannot co-exist. Focus on what you are grateful for every day. This changes the energy within ourselves. This kind of energy is inspiring and amazingly contagious too.
We are all energy (Qi) that constantly flows within and vibrate outward to our environment that ripples out to the world. So if everybody is anxious, stressed and angry the collective energy of what people release are what the rest of the world may also feel. We are all inevitably connected to all the energy (Qi) around us. in the last couple weeks majority of patients I have been treating have been for emotional distress and anxiety. Coincidence? I don't think so.
In Eastern Medicine we talk about Qi A LOT, because it is the life's energy force that flows within our body at all times. Qi must flow smoothly at all times to maintain harmony and balance. When there are interruptions with the natural flow of Qi, symptoms such as anxiety, stress, irritability, anger, insomnia, headache, indigestion, irregular menses and pain show up in our body. Acupuncture works to unblock, regulate and put balance back in order. This amazing trait of acupuncture is unique to nearly every other medical system, and has sustained acupuncture as a complete system of medicine for over 5,000 years.
To explain how acupuncture works more scientifically.......
Acupuncture points contain high concentrations of nerve endings, mast cells, lymphatic vessels and capillaries. These points are located just beneath the surface of the skin. When acupuncture needles are inserted in these specific points, it stimulates the sensory receptors, in turn stimulates the nerve, which then transmits impulses to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system. This complex system of interactions (often called a “feedback loop”) between the brain, hormones, and glands is responsible for regulating a number of bodily processes. Because acupuncture helps to regulate the various feedback loops in the body, it actually allows the body to heal itself of whatever is wrong. Hence, the promotion of deep relaxation, sense of feeling balanced, lightness and/or release during and after acupuncture treatments.
And with that I will leave you with a little tip as you prepare for your Thanksgiving feasts. many of you will eat more than you probably should so here's what you can do if you get a tummy ache or indigestion.
- On each leg deeply massage these 2 points, Stomach 36 and Lan Wei Xue shown below going in a downward direction towards the foot. Make sure to put a good amount of pressure where you will feel some tenderness at those points.
I am grateful to be able to share and help people with the skills and knowledge I've learned. I still have LOTS more to learn but so far It's incredibly fulfilling and I am grateful to have found something I love to do.
WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
YOurs truly,
-Jules-
